The Kearney High Bearcats delivered a commanding performance Friday night, securing a boys and girls basketball doubleheader sweep against the Omaha Benson High School Bunnies. The Bearcat girls set the tone with a 65-36 victory, while the boys followed with an 83-55 rout to cap off a dominant evening. 

The Kearney girls got off to a sluggish start offensively, finding themselves tied 9-9 with 4:31 remaining in the first quarter. However, the Bearcats quickly found their rhythm, outscoring the Bunnies 56-27 over the final three quarters to secure the win. With the win the Bearcats move to 16-3 on the season. 

Senior standout Kelsey Hatcher led the charge with a game-high 19 points and six rebounds, showcasing her versatility on both ends of the floor. Sophomore Libby Province added 17 points, three assists, and a steal, while Kennedy Lee contributed eight points, including two three-pointers in five attempts. The Bearcats’ defense was equally impressive, stifling Benson’s offense and creating transition opportunities that fueled their scoring runs.

Head Coach Drew DanielsonThe Bearcat boys kept the energy high in the nightcap, taking care of Omaha Benson 83-55 to improve to 14-5 on the season. Junior sharpshooter Jacob Webber stole the show, tying a school record with nine three-pointers to 32 points. Webber also grabbed four rebounds.

Senior point guard Ben Johnson finished with 16 points, nine assists, and four steals. 

The Bearcats were defensively sound recording 12 steals, and forcing 16 Bunnie turnovers. 

Both teams will be in action Saturday evening as they welcome Millard West. Girls will tip off against class a #1 wildcats at 3:30 P.M. Alex Hammeke will have the coverage on KGFW starting at 3:15.
