HASTINGS — As the snowfall comes to an end, dangerously cold wind chills will linger through midday Thursday, an Extreme Cold Warning is still in place.

According to National Weather Service – Hastings, wind chills as low as -20 to -30 degrees will continue through the morning of Thursday, Feb. 20. Even afternoon values will be bitterly cold throughout central Nebraska.

Skies will clear tonight, and this will result in temperatures plummeting tonight. Thursday morning will be the coldest temperature wise with low temperatures ranging from around -10 to -25 degrees.

“The surface high will begin to move to the east of the area Thursday afternoon with winds becoming southerly. This will result in temperatures warming up into single digits to low double digits,” per NWS Hastings.

“Wind chills will increase into the negative single digits to positive single digits Thursday afternoon allowing for the ending of the Extreme Cold Warning,” NWS Hastings stated, “Low temperatures Thursday night are expected to be in the negative single digits to negative low double digits.”

“Although the worst of this prolonged cold snap will end Thursday morning, Thursday night into Friday morning will bring one final round of very cold wind chills as low as -15 to -25 degrees. Later forecasts may include a Cold Weather Advisory for this time frame,” NWS Hastings stated.

In what will be a whiplash of temperature range, high temperatures will climb above freezing on Saturday with the 40s and 50s on Sunday.
