GRAND ISLAND — Three separate vehicle thefts were reported throughout Grand Island on Monday, March 10.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, at 8:15 p.m., officers responded to W. Koening St. in response to a vehicle theft.

Officers contacted a woman who reported that her 2010 Chevy 1500 was stolen from her backyard. She stated that she knew the person that stole the vehicle from a past relationship.

The suspect was identified through home security footage. They were later apprehended in Hastings while in possession of the stolen vehicle.

According to the Hastings Police Department, “a 37-year-old Grand Island resident was arrested for possession of stolen property, driving under the influence of alcohol, refusal of a chemical test, possession of an open container, driving under suspension, four Hall County warrants and an Adams County warrant in the 1200 block of North Baltimore Avenue.”

The case remains under investigation.

At 8:20 p.m., GIPD officers were dispatched to E. 6th St. in reference to a vehicle theft call for service. An 18-year-old male said they had left the keys to a 1997 Ford F250 that was parked in front of the residence.

The male said that they heard the vehicle start and saw it leave at a high rate of speed.

Officers were able later to locate the vehicle and return it back to the owner. The case remains open.

At 8:56 p.m., officers responded to 13th St. for a reported vehicle theft.

A 53-year-old male reported that the keys were left in a 2004 Ford F250, and the vehicle was missing. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and return it to the owner.

The case remains under investigation.
