KEARNEY — A Heat Advisory has been issued for all of central Nebraska through the evening of Tuesday, July 22.
According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, the advisory will begin at 12 p.m. on Monday, July 21 and last through 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22.
The heat index will range from 102 to 108 degrees in the late afternoon and early evening during both days. These hot temperatures and high humidity values could cause heat illnesses.
The highest readings look to be east of Highway 281 in south central Nebraska, locations with extensive row crops will likely experienced enhanced evapotranspiration effects.
“Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors,” per NWS Hastings.
“To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency,” NWS Hastings stated.
