GRAND ISLAND — A jury trial date has been set for a Grand Island man charged with two counts of third-degree sexual assault of a child in Hall County District Court.

Jonathan Cruz-Lopez, 34, has been charged with two counts of third-degree sexual assault of a child, a Class 3A felony and committing intentional child abuse – no injury, a Class 3A felony.

Cruz-Lopez pleaded not guilty to the charges in July, and a pre-trial date was scheduled for Sept. 2 at 2:30 p.m. and a jury trial was set to start on Nov. 3 at 9 a.m.

Cruz-Lopez’s bail was set at 10 percent of $25,000.

According to an affidavit submitted in court, on Thursday, May 22, officers with the Grand Island Police Department responded to Lincoln Ave. for the report of a sexual assault of a six-year-old girl.

During the investigation officers determined Cruz-Lopez has sexually assaulted the six-year-old while lying in bed with her. It was also found that Cruz-Lopez had also sexually assaulted the girl in 2024 while living in the home.

Cruz-Lopez was arrested and booked into the Hall County Department of Corrections.
