HASTINGS — Scattered chances for rain and storm chances are scattered throughout this work week, while temperatures will be in the mid-60s to low 80s through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, a large upper-level trough of low pressure extends from the east coast to the central and northern Plains. This feature will move farther east today and allow temperatures to warm into the mid-70s to near 80.

Low temperatures tonight are expected to be in the mid to upper 50s, with partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies.

South central Nebraska will be on the backside of the upper-level trough on Wednesday as a shortwave disturbance crosses the region. This will result in an increased chance for showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening.

Any storms that develop are not expected to be strong or severe due to low instability values.

Winds will shift to more easterly on Thursday as the surface area of high pressure crosses the region. High temperatures are expected to reach the low 70s to near 80. Winds become more southerly during the evening.

Temperatures on Friday will be slightly warmer than previous days with highs reaching the mid 70s to low 80s. Another shortwave moves through the area during the evening and again will bring an increased chance for showers and sub-severe storms. Low temperatures during the evening will be in the upper 50s.

Yet another shortwave disturbance will move into the region during Saturday evening, and an increased chance for precipitation will follow.

High temperatures on Saturday will be in the mid-70s to the upper 70s. Low temperatures Saturday night will be in the mid-50s to 60 degrees.

An upper trough passing over the northern Plains and Upper Midwest will result in increased lift over the area and continued rain and storm chances Sunday and Sunday night.

High temperatures on Sunday will be in the mid-70s to the low 80s. Low temperatures Sunday night will be in the mid-50s to near 60 degrees.

Temperatures on Monday will be similar or a degree or two warmer than the previous day.
