The Nebraska baseball team travels to Piscataway, New Jersey this weekend for a pair of games against the Indiana Hoosiers and Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The Huskers suffered their first series loss of the season last weekend, as they were swept by the Scarlet Knights at Hawks Field. The Hoosiers head to Piscataway tied with Michigan for the top spot in the league standings, a half-game ahead of Nebraska. The Huskers take on the Hoosiers Saturday afternoon at 2:00. They play both Indiana and Rutgers Sunday, and close pod play with a single game against the Scarlet Knights Monday morning at 10:00.
The Nebraska softball team travels to Iowa this weekend for a four-game series with the Hawkeyes. The Huskers and Hawkeyes are tied for fifth in the league standings with identical 20-16 records. Both teams are also coming off four-game sweeps last weekend. The series begins with a single game today at 3:00. They play a doubleheader Saturday at 1:00. The series finale is set for Noon on Sunday.
Nebraska senior guard Kobe Webster is one of five student-athletes named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VII team on Thursday. Webster, who graduated from Western Illinois in three years with a 3.75 GPA, is currently working on his master’s degree in educational administration and carries a 3.75 GPA. It is the second time Webster has been a first-team all-district pick, as he was also tabbed in 2019 at Western Illinois. 1st, 2nd- and 3rd-team Academic All-America honorees will be announcd later this month. Webster is hoping to become the first Husker basketball player to earn the honor since Shavon Shields in 2015 and 2016. Nebraska leads all NCAA programs with 340 Academic All-Americans.
Former Creighton Prep standout Akol Arop, who spent two years at Nebraska, will join UNO next season. The 6-foot-6, 190-pound Arop redshirted in 2020-21 at Nebraska after undergoing a procedure on his knee in the preseason. He was named the Nebraska Gatorade player of the year in 2018-19.
The Creighton Baseball team begins a pivotal two-week stretch of Big East road games this weekend, facing the Butler Bulldogs in a four game series in Indianapolis. Currently in first place in the Big East, the Bluejays have won 13 of their last 15. Game one is this afternoon at 3:00. The two teams will play a double header Saturday and a single game Sunday.
The UNO baseball team continues Summit League action this weekend, traveling to Fargo for a four game series against North Dakota State. The Mavericks and Bison will play a doubleheader today at 3:00, and single games on Saturday and Sunday.
The UNK track and field team heads to Pittsburg, Kansas, this weekend for the 2021 MIAA Outdoor Championships. The Loper women are 24th, and the men are 31st in the latest national rating index. Showing the strength of the conference, the MIAA has seven women’s squads in the Division II Top 26 with the men’s side having eight of the Top 31. The two-day meet begins Saturday at 10:00. Rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast so the schedule may be altered.
