KEARNEY — The City of Kearney’s one-and-six-year street improvement plan was approved by the city council during their meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 9.

The projects on the one-year plan include:

  • Ave. A, from 31st St. to 35th St., $1,500,000
  • 45th St. and N Ave. intersection improvements, $925,000
  • Butler Ave. Place, from 56th St. to 600 feet south of 56th St., $850,000
  • Marlatt Fourth – 18th St., M Ave. and N Ave place, $800,000
  • Saadi First – Adams Ave and 41st St., $2,600,000
  • Arborview Third and Fourth – R Ave and 64th St., $2,700,000

Lucas Dutcher, City Engineer, said that the two big upcoming projects include reconstruction of Ave. A near CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital. He noted this project was under design and will be bid soon.

Dutcher said that this project will be conducted in phases to limit the impact to school traffic around Kearney Catholic High School.

The other major project is 45th St. and N. Ave. near Sunrise Middle School. Dutcher said there have been complaints about this intersection, especially when school traffic is involved.

It was also noted that the Marlatt Fourth improvements will accommodate infrastructure for an area recently platted for Kearney Area Habitat of Humanity to construct homes.
