Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule has agreed to a two-year extension to his contract, signing him as head coach through 2032. The extension also comes with a $15 million buyout this year that likely eliminates him from consideration from another head coaching position.

Rhule had been at the center of much speculation that he would be the next head football coach at his alma mater, Penn State. The Nittany Lions fired James Franklin earlier this season.

The contract also includes a provision that Rhule’s base salary increases by $1 million every year the Cornhuskers make the College Football Playoff. Rhule is currently paid $11.7 million. Rhule is due to make $12.5 million in the final season of his prior deal, the 2030 season. The two additional years would be at $12.5 million.

Rhule is 18-15 in three years as Nebraska’s head coach entering Saturday’s game against No. 23 USC.
