LEXINGTOn — The City of Lexington is cooperating with state and local organizations to provide Tyson employees access to resources to assist with job transition and individual assistance; this information can be found at https://opportunity.nebraska.gov/Lexington/. The state and local organizations are doing an excellent job initiating outreach efforts.

In the wake of the closure announcement, City staff are actively working with state, federal, and private entities in gathering information to define community impacts, formulate strategies to mitigate the pending adversity, and establish pathways to recovery. This is being done in a deliberate manner to avoid misinformation or cause additional confusion.

Currently, there are no simple short-term solutions to replace existing jobs. There will be a transition period where individuals will need to secure alternative employment or unemployment assistance, which support options can be found at the link provided above.

We are committed to identifying new investment and job opportunities for our residents.

The support of entrepreneurship, promotion of skills training, investment in infrastructure, and initiatives to position Lexington for recovery are priorities.

The City of Lexington will provide updates on recovery efforts and develop a platform to display information, receive input, and move forward in a consolidated manner. This community is resilient and will emerge stronger.
