LEXINGTON — Members of the Frist United Methodist Church of Omaha presented a check over $20,000 to the Lexington Community Relief Fund in the wake of announcement that Tyson would shut down production.

“As the Lexington Community Foundation continues to receive many gracious gifts directed toward the Lexington Community Relief Fund, we recently received word that the First United Methodist Church in Omaha will be presenting a $25,000 check to the relief fund for families impacted by the Tyson plant closure,” the Lexington Community Foundation (LCF) stated.

“The LCF continues to put our mission in action to create a community where all people thrive. In support of the effort, LCF has established a Community Relief Fund to provide assistance to those directly impacted by the Tyson plant closure,” per the LCF.

FUMC Omaha lead pastor, Morita Truman, and other congregation members presented the check to Beth Roberts, Executive Director, Lexington Community Foundation on Thursday, Jan. 8.

Truman said the donations were raised through their Christmas Eve service and other giving opportunities that the congregation generously donated toward.

Congregation members noted their desire to help the Lexington community, know the impact the closure of Tyson will have on the community. They noted it was a way they could act out their faith and stand with their Nebraska neighbors in their time of need.

” This is one of numerous gifts that have been given to support the community assistance efforts of those most impacted by the recent Tyson plant closure,” per the LCF.
