Following the resignation of Dan McKeon on Tuesday, Governor Jim Pillen announced that Fred Meyer of St. Paul will fill Legislative District 41 for the rest of the legislative session. The appointment was made public Wednesday afternoon in a press conference from Gov. Jim Pillen.

Meyer was sworn in by Secretary of State Bob Evnen, who served with Meyer on the State Board of Education. Meyer previously served the LD41 senate seat when Tom Briese resigned to be the state treasurer in 2023. Meyer did not run for election in 2024.

In a press conference held after swearing in, Meyer said that he would not introduce any new legislation, and did not comment on running in the special election that will be held in November 2026 to fill the remainder of the term.

McKeon resigned from the legislature yesterday after the unicameral was looking to expel him over an alleged groping incident stemming from a post-session party in 2025. To read our previous reporting from CentralNebraskaToday.com and affiliate radio station KLIN in Lincoln, click HERE and HERE
