LEXINGTON — Please be aware, scammers are back at it. We have received several phone calls from individuals alerting us to an active jury duty scam in the area.

The scammer makes claims of missed jury service demanding money and threatening arrest. This is a scam.

Neither the Courthouse nor law enforcement will call about missed jury service and demand money.

Some tips to remember to avoid being a victim of a jury duty scam include:

– Know that jury duty summons will come by mail, not by phone or email;
– If no jury duty summons is received, then ignore a phone call from anyone claiming to be calling about jury duty;
– Contact the Courthouse to see if there is a valid jury duty issue;
– Never give personal or financial information over the phone to a stranger, especially if the caller acts aggressively;
– Recognize that anyone asking for payments to be made through a gift card is a scammer; and
– Be wary of Caller ID, as this can be spoofed, making a phone call look like it is coming from a real source.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to give the Courthouse a call. 308-324-4261
