KEARNEY — Wind chill values will drop to 10 to 20 degrees below zero across central Nebraska during the morning of Saturday, Jan. 17.

According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, wind chill values of five to 20 degrees below zero are expected, with the coldest temperatures along and north of Interstate 80.

Real air temperatures will sink into the single digits and the breezy winds gusting to 25 to 35 mph will result in the below zero wind chills. This will be the coldest night since the end of December.

“Little improvement is expected during the day, as highs only climb into the teens to low 20s with wind chill values in the single digits,” per NWS Hastings.

Winds Saturday night are expected to become southwesterly around 5 to 10 mph which will result in wind chills of around zero to around negative 10 degrees.

“Temperatures are generally expected to warm up on Sunday although there is some uncertainty to the amount of warming due to another cold front moving into the area,” NWS Hastings states, “Low temperatures in the single digits to teens are expected Sunday night with wind chills of around negative 10 to five degrees.”
