HASTINGS — The Hastings Public Library is excited to welcome Katie Schroder to the library team.

Katie joined us on Jan. 20 as a Library Programming Assistant, where she’ll be overseeing all things Bookmobile and outreach-bringing library services out into the community and meeting readers where they are.

No stranger to the Hastings community, Katie moved to Hastings at age 10 and graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 2007.

She brings a wealth of experience in education and libraries, with degrees from Grand Canyon University and the University of Nebraska at Omaha, including a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Master’s degrees in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education, and a Master’s-level endorsement in PreK -12 Library and Media.

Before coming to the library, Katie taught Fouth grade at Hastings Public Schools, worked as a Library Media Specialist in Grand Island, and served as a service provider at Avani. Her background makes her a perfect fit for connecting people of all ages with books, learning, and fun.

When she’s not at the library, on the Bookmobile, or with her family, Katie plays the viola with the Hastings Symphony Orchestra, loves reading, and enjoys tarot. She’s also active in the community as a board member with enCourage.

If you see the Bookmobile out and about, be sure to say hello-Katie is excited to get rolling and connect with our communities across Adams County!

“We are very fortunate to have Katie join our library team,” says director, Kelly Reisig. “Our library service area is the whole of Adams County, and we want to ensure that all Adams County residents can access library services. Our goal is to triple our outreach into the county.

We would love to hear from any daycare providers, childcare centers, schools, senior centers, or community event organizers who are interested in library outreach services.”
