AXTELL — A Bertrand man was killed was the result of a train-vehicle accident in Kearney County on Thursday, Jan. 29.
The accident occurred around four miles east of Axtell, a pickup was reported to be traveling northbound on 27 Road in rural Kearney County.
While crossing the railroad tracks near Highway 6, the pickup was struck on the passenger side by a westbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway train.
The driver, Scott Kugler, 56, was located deceased at the scene.
The Nebraska State Patrol is leading the investigation, with the Kearney County Sheriff’s Office and BNSF Railway assisting.
