LEXINGTON — At the February Dawson Public Power District board meeting, Director Brad Brodine of Elm Creek received Director Gold Certification for continuing education from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.

The program emphasizes rural electric leadership and fiduciary duty as a board member.

The results of the customer satisfaction surveys were shared. Residential customers believe that Dawson PPD provides reliable power, restores power quickly after an outage, and is honest and transparent. Likewise, irrigation customers scored customer service and timely response as excellent. A third of respondents indicated that they would add a new irrigation service or upgrade an existing one in the next three years.

General Manager Alyssa Clemsen Roberts reviewed the Dawson PPD employee culture assessment results. Core values include meeting customer needs, ensuring safety and reliability.

The December financial report showed annual operating expenses under budget. Compared to 2024, annual revenue is nearly the same with power cost up 3.1% in 2025. Investments in facilities, vehicles and special equipment were under budget for the year. Plant investments for a power line upgrade and substation rebuild came in over original cost projections.

“Thanks to all the departments for keeping their spending close to budget,” Board President Dan Muhlbach of Kearney said.

Other news items include:
• Director Don Batie of Lexington updated the group on legislative bills that could affect public power.
• Due to mild weather, line construction for customer projects like new homes and irrigation projects is on schedule.
• The next board meeting will be Wednesday, March 4 at 10:00 a.m.
