GRAND ISLAND — Grand Island saw the warmest temperature ever recorded in a year on Monday, Feb. 9. A new temperature record was also set in Hastings.

According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, the Grand Island Central Airport recorded a high temperature of 77 degrees on Monday, seven degrees higher than the previous record of 70 set in 1996.

This was the warmest temperature ever recorded this early in the year at Grand Island, where temperature records date back to 1895.

The Hastings Municipal Airport recorded its own high temperature of 75 degrees; the old record was also 70 degrees and had been set in 1954.

Looking ahead this week, the record-breaking warmth of the last several days is behind the area, but persistently above normal temperatures appear to persist for at least another seven to 10 days, with daily highs mainly in the 50s and low 60s and overnight lows only falling into the 20s and 30s, per NWS Hastings.
