KEARNEY – One night. Four eras. Fifteen years of tradition.
Korean Night returns to the University of Nebraska at Kearney on Feb. 28, bringing campus and community members together to experience “Korea Through the Ages” during the 15th annual celebration. The event begins at 5 p.m. in the Ponderosa Room inside the Nebraskan Student Union and is free and open to the public.
Hosted by the Korean Student Association at Kearney (KSAK), this year’s program will take attendees on a cultural journey spanning from the Joseon Dynasty to contemporary Korea. The theme showcases the evolution of Korean history, arts and entertainment, blending traditional performances with modern influences.
Highlights include a traditional fan dance with modern elements, Y2K-inspired performances honoring early K-pop idol groups such as H.O.T. and tributes to current artists like LE SSERAFIM and Day6.
For the first time, the event will feature calligraphy and origami crane demonstrations, with opportunities for audience participation.
Attendees can also try popular Korean games such as ddakji, stone flicking and rock, paper, scissors.
Dinner will include authentic bibimbap, with a vegetarian option available, along with Korean cinnamon iced tea.
“This is our chance to share Korean culture with UNK students and the Kearney community,” said Anh Ho, a KSAK representative and board member. “When people think of Korea, they often think only of K-pop or Korean dramas. But Korea has a beautiful, less well-known cultural side. Each year, we try to bring different themes and activities so people can experience more.”
One of UNK’s most popular cultural events, Korean Night celebrates that heritage while creating a space for students to showcase their talents and connect with the broader community.
