KEARNEY — On February 13, 2026, at approximately 11:35 p.m., officers with the Kearney Police Department were dispatched to a robbery in progress at Casey’s General Store (1308 E. 39th Street).

A KPD officer was already patrolling in the area when the call came out and because of his close proximity and immediate response, the suspect was safely taken into custody at 11:37 p.m. — just two minutes after the initial call.

Employees had reported that this male subject entered the store, holding a brick, and demanded money be placed into a plastic bag. Store employees acted quickly and courageously, tackling the suspect and holding him until officers were able to secure the suspect.

The individual was arrested and lodged for Robbery and Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony.

This incident is a powerful example of proactive policing, rapid response, and strong partnerships between our officers and community members. This case was resolved quickly, with a suspect taken safely into custody within minutes, as well as no injuries to employees, bystanders, or officers.

We are extremely proud of the swift actions of this officer and the coordinated efforts of the entire shift, as well as the quick action and bravery shown by these store employees. Kearney Police Department remains committed to prevention, visibility, and ensuring the safety of our community — day and night.
