HASTINGS — A High Wind Watch has been issued for parts of central Nebraska for the evening and overnight of Thursday, March 12.
The National Weather Service – Hastings has issued the watch for Valley, Greely, Nance, Sherman, Howard, Merrick, Polk, Hall, Hamilton and York counties. The watch is in effect from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Winds out of the northwest are expected at 30 to 40 mph with some gusts up to 60 mph possible. The winds will be due to an advancing cold front from the north with the highest gusts possible behind the front.
The greatest threat for the highest wind gusts are along and north of Interstate 80 and east of Highway 183.
“Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles,” per NWS Hastings, “Fasten loose objects or shelter objects in a safe location prior to the onset of winds.”
