GRAND ISLAND — Forecast highs in the 90s on Saturday, March 21 have a chance to set all-time March maximum temperature records in Grand Island and Hastings.

A large ridge of high pressure currently resides over the western United States and this feature will be flattened by a passing disturbance near the United States and Canada border. The thermal ridge axis will shift east toward the region.

“It’s not just daily high temperature records being threatened for Mar. 21, the all-time March high temperature is at risk as well as highs climb into the 90s area-wide,” the National Weather Service – Hastings stated.

The forecast high for both Grand Island and Hastings is 94 degrees, the past record highs on that date are 83 degrees set in 1988 and 87 degrees in 1910, respectively.

NWS Hastings noted that the all-time March maximum temperature is 90s degrees for both Grand Island and Hastings.

A cold front passage will bring a notably cooler end to the weekend, with forecast highs on Sunday being roughly 30 degrees cooler than Saturday, topping out in the 60s.
