KEARNEY — A June trial date has been set for a Kearney man charged with first-degree sexual assault and domestic violence.

Jason Gundersen, 43, first-degree sexual assault, a Class 2 felony; assault by strangulation or suffocation, a Class 3A felony; first-degree false imprisonment, a Class 3A felony; third-degree domestic assault – cause bodily injury, a Class 3A felony, resisting arrest – first offense, a Class 1 misdemeanor, obstruct a peace officer, a Class 1 misdemeanor and criminal mischief – $500-1,499, a Class 2 misdemeanor.

Gundersen has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Following a hearing on March 20, a continuance was granted and the final plea hearing was set for April 17 at 2 p.m. A jury trial is scheduled to begin on June 8 at 9 a.m.

The affidavit for the support of continued detention has been sealed in this case, but the complaint filed in the court record alleges that Gundersen subjected his intimate partner to sexual penetration without their consent on Sept. 4 at a location on Highway 30 in Kearney.

Gundersen is also alleged to have impeded the breathing of the person, restrained them and caused bodily injury. This would be Gundersen’s second domestic violence offense, having been convicted of the charge on Sept. 18, 2023, according to the complaint.

Gundersen was arrested and booked into the Buffalo County Jail on Sept. 4.
