Commissioners for the ACC, Big Ten and Pac-12 announced an alliance Tuesday afternoon. The 41-team alliance includes a scheduling component for football and men’s and women’s basketball. Nebraska AD Trev Alberts posted a video on Twitter talking about the newly formed alliance. The scheduling alliance “will begin as soon as practical while honoring current contractual obligations.” Unless the Big Ten changes the number of league games for football, Nebraska has one opening in 2024, 2027, and 2030… and two in 2029 and 2031. The Huskers don’t have a full nonconference slate available until 2032. Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren told reporters at the announcement that there is no intention to break existing contracts.

The Huskers are hitting the practice field again this morning as they continue to prep for this Saturday’s season opener at Illinois. Offensive coordinator Matt Lubick met with members of the media following Tuesday’s practice. Lubick said they’ve had a really good camp. The Huskers open the season this Saturday at Illinois, kickoff is at noon.

In other Husker football related news;
– Reserve defensive lineman Jamin Graham has entered the transfer portal. The Alabama native is a third-year freshman and failed to see the field the last two seasons at Nebraska.

The Nebraska volleyball program will honor former Husker All-American and 2020 Olympic gold medalist Justine Wong-Orantes Saturday, during the final match of the Husker Invitational. Wong-Orantes joined former Huskers Jordan Larson and Kelsey Robinson on the Team USA roster this summer as the Americans made history at the Tokyo Games by claiming their first gold medal. Nebraska opens the season this Friday with matches against Tulsa (11:00) and Colgate (6:30), followed by Saturday’s finale with Kansas State at 4:00.

One other Husker volleyball note;
– Seniors Nicklin Hames and Lauren Stivrins and junior Kenzie Knuckles were announced as team captains for the 2021 season on Tuesday. Hames and Stivrins are both returning captains from 2020-21, and Hames also served in the role in 2019.

The Tri-City Storm have announced the complete exhibition schedule for the 2021-2022 season. The Storm will play five games in total during the preseason. The opening game on Friday, September 10th will be part of a newly announced USHL West Preseason Shootout hosted by the Sioux City Musketeers. The Storm’s final game of the preseason will be played at home at the Viaero Center on Friday, September 17th against the Omaha Lancers.

The Tri-City Storm also acquired defenseman Aiden Dubinsky in a transaction with the Omaha Lancers yesterday. In exchange for Dubinsky, Omaha has received defenseman Ethan Elias and forward Colin Kessler.
