UNK VOLLEYBALL PREPARES FOR BIG WEEKEND
The No. 1 ranked and undefeated UNK Volleyball team prepares for a big weekend of conference foes coming to the Health and Sports Center this weekend.
The action starts on Friday night as UNK faces Emporia State at 6 PM. The Hornets are 2-5 on the season with wins over Black Hills State and Cameron.
The Health & Sports Center will be rocking for Saturday’s matchup between No. 1 UNK and No. 3 Washburn. First serve is set for 6 PM. Washburn is 8-1 on the year, having lost to #15 Colorado School of Mines last Saturday.
The Lopers close out their weekend with a match to Hastings College on Monday in Kearney.
LOPER FOOTBALL READY FOR TOP 30 TEST AGAINST WASHBURN
The UNK Football team entered the Top 25 for the first time since 2011 this week, and their ranking will be put to the test by No. 29 Washburn on Saturday.
The Lopers came back from a 17-7 deficit in Pittsburg last week to win their fifth straight contest dating back to the 2019 Mineral Water Bowl.
Kickoff time at Ron and Carol Cope Stadium is set for 1 PM between the Lopers and Ichabods.
HASTINGS COLLEGE PREPARES FOR HOMECOMING CONTEST AGAINST JAMESTOWN
The Hastings College Broncos are still searching for their first win of the season and in the Matt Franzen era as they prepare for their homecoming contest against Jamestown.
Coming off back-to-back Top 15 matchups with No. 14 Dordt and No. 2 Northwestern, the Broncos welcome the University of Jamestown to Lloyd Wilson Field.
Kickoff is set for 1 PM.
NSAA PASS NEW TRACK AND FIELD DATES/SCHEDULES
The NSAA passed new formats for district and state track and field dates for the upcoming spring sports season.
District track will now take place on May 10 for Classes A and B (affecting Kearney High, Hastings High, Grand Island Senior High, Grand Island Northwest, etc.) and May 12 for Classes C & D (affecting Kearney Catholic, Axtell, Elm Creek, Overton, Holdrege, Gibbon, Wood River, Shelton, Pleasanton, GICC, Hastings St. Cecilia, Adams Central, etc.).
The state track and field championships will take place in the same four day format as the 2021 championships did last spring.
HUSKERS AND OKLAHOMA TO WEAR 50th ANNIVERSARY STICKERS
Oklahoma and Nebraska will wear stickers on their helmets in honor of the 50th anniversary of the ‘Game of the Century’.
FROST – NOT TALKING ABOUT INJURIES
Head Coach Scott Frost held his regular media conference after the Huskers practice on Thursday. When asked what players may be available for this Saturday’s contest at Oklahoma, Frost declined to comment, stating “I do not want to talk about injuries.”
Against Buffalo, many skill position players were unavailable – including: Oliver Martin, Omar Manning, Barron Miles Jr, and Tight end Travis Vokolek. Starting Tight End Austin Allen was injured in the Buffalo contest and did not return.
FROST – HUSKERS HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE

NEBRASKA VOLLEYBALL PREPARES FOR HOME TEST AGAINST LOUISVILLE
The No. 6 Nebraska volleyball team plays its non-conference finale this Saturday, welcoming No. 5 Louisville. First serve in the Huskers’ fourth straight top-20 matchup is set for 7 p.m. at the Devaney Center. The match will be televised on BTN. The game can also be heard on the Huskers Radio Network.
NEBRASKA ESTABLISHES NEW LICENSING AGREEMENT FOR ATHLETES
The University of Nebraska and The Brandr Group have established a group licensing agreement for the university’s student-athletes covering all the Cornhuskers’ 24 varsity sports. This partnership creates new opportunities for Nebraska’s student-athletes to profit off their Name, Image and Likeness using the school’s official trademarks and logos.
LOPER WOMEN’S TENNIS COMPLETES NEAR SWEEP OF METRO STATE
The Nebraska-Kearney women’s tennis team swept doubles and took five of the six singles matches in straight sets to run past Metro State, 6-1, Thursday afternoon in Denver.
The annual fall trip to Colorado will also feature duals vs. Colorado Mesa and Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday.
FORMER HUSKER GATES INJURED ON THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
Former Husker offensive lineman Nick Gates suffered a gruesome leg injury at FedEx Field on Thursday night as his New York Giants took on the Washington Football team.
Gates was pinned backwards by a defensive lineman when his leg was caught underneath a pile of another teammate and defensive player, snapping his leg. Gates was carted off the field.
The Washington Football Team won 30-29 after a fourth quarter field goal.
HUSKER BASEBALL SET FOR FRIDAY EXHIBITION AGAINST CREIGHTON
The Nebraska baseball team holds its first fall exhibition game this Friday welcoming in-state foe Creighton to Hawks Field at Haymarket Park at 5 p.m. The game is scheduled to last 12 innings.
Gates will open one hour prior to first pitch, and admission is free. Concessions will be open for fans with a limited menu for purchase. All outside food and beverage is prohibited.
The exhibition will be streamed live on the Husker Baseball Facebook and Twitter pages.
TRI-CITY STORM DOWN LANCERS IN PRESEASON
The Tri-City Storm defeated the Omaha Lancers 4-2 Thursday night at the auxiliary rink at Ralston Arena. Mitchell Miller scored twice, while Haden Kruse and Drew Montgomery scored goals for the Storm in the victory.
The Storm now return home to the Viaero Center for the final game of the 2021-2022 preseason. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
