KEARNEY CATHOLIC SOFTBALL WINS C1-9 SUBDISTRICT
The Kearney Catholic Stars Softball team won decidedly over their C1-9 subdistrict field to advance to a district final later this week.
The Stars downed Ord 9-1 in Game 1, followed by a commanding 13-0 victory over Southern Valley/Alma.
Kearney Catholic is now 27-6 on the season.
KEARNEY GIRLS GOLF EARNS BID TO STATE
The Bearcat Girls Golf team qualified for the Class A State Golf Championships in Norfolk with a third place finish in their District meet on Monday.
The Bearcats finished with a 355 total stroke count, and had an individual qualifier in senior Hannah Lydiatt, shooting 82 and finishing eighth.
Qualifiers include Lydiatt, seniors Sydney Peterson and Alexa Mahalke, sophomore Addison Peterson, and freshman Olivia James.
KEARNEY CATHOLIC QUALIFIES ONE FOR STATE
The Kearney Catholic Stars Girls Golf team qualified one golfer for the state meet on Monday at the Class C-4 District Golf meet in Holdrege.
Junior Maddi Waggoner shot 99 and was a finalist, finishing at the tenth spot to earn an instant qualifying spot.
BURROUGHS WINS HISTORIC TITLE
Former Husker wrestler Jordan Burroughs won his fifth World Championship, defeating Mohammad Nokhodilarimi of Iran, 5-1, in the men’s freestyle 79 kg final at the World Wrestling Championships on Monday. Burroughs tied John Smith’s U.S. freestyle record of six World and Olympic Championships combined.
In the 79 kg final, Burroughs took the early 3-0 lead with a double-leg takedown followed closely by another double. The victory gave Burroughs his fifth World Championship gold medal, joining his titles in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017.
HUSKER MEN’S BASKETBALL TO APPEAR 28 TIMES ON NATIONAL STAGE
The Nebraska men’s basketball team will make a minimum of 28 national television appearances this coming season, as the Big Ten Conference and its television partners announced their 2021-22 TV schedules on Tuesday.
In all, the Huskers will make at least 19 appearances on the Big Ten Network, four on FS1 and five on the ESPN family of networks. In addition, four regular-season games and both exhibition games will be available online at B1G+.
HUSKER WOMEN FILL FS1 AND BTN SCHEDULES
The Nebraska women’s basketball program will make at least nine regular-season appearances on the Big Ten Network or FS1, the network and the conference office announced on Tuesday.
The Huskers are scheduled to make a pair of national television appearances on FS1, including a showdown with Iowa (Jan. 9) at Pinnacle Bank Arena and a clash at Ohio State (Feb. 10)

FORMER HUSKER DAVIS SIGNS WITH INDIANAPOLIS
Former Husker Khalil Davis is on the move to a new team. Davis, who was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, was signed by the Indianapolis Colts on Monday.
Davis, who was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and won a Super Bowl with the franchise last season as a rookie, was waived to make room on the team’s 53-man roster.
HUSKER BASEBALL SETS GAMETIME FOR SCRIMMAGE
The Nebraska baseball team’s annual Red-White Series will be played Oct. 11-13, with the first pitch set for 3:30 p.m. each day at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park. Each of the three scrimmages is scheduled for seven innings.
The games are open to the public, and admission is free. Gates will open one hour prior to the first pitch.

HUSKERS DOMANN AND MARTINEZ FOR NORTHWESTERN PERFORMANCE
JoJo Domann and Adrian Martinez were both honored Monday morning for their performances in the Huskers’ win over Northwestern last Saturday. Domann was named Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week, while Martinez was one of eight Manning Award Stars of the Week.
Domann led the Huskers with nine tackles, including eight solo stops, while posting career highs for tackles for loss (3.0), sacks (2.0) and forced fumbles (two).
Martinez accounted for 252 yards of total offense, as the Huskers put up 56 points and over 650 yards of total offense. He completed 11-of-17 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown, while also carrying eight times for 50 yards and a career-high three touchdowns.
NEBRASKA FOOTBALL SET FOR 11 AM KICK AGAINST MINNESOTA
The Big Ten Conference announced Monday afternoon that Nebraska’s road game at Minnesota on Saturday, Oct. 16, will kick off at 11 AM. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
