HASTINGS COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL UPSETS No. 3 MIDLAND

The Hastings College volleyball team welcomed NAIA No. 3 Midland to town for what proved to be an exciting match as the Broncos came away with the 3-2 upset on Wednesday night inside Lynn Farrell Arena.

Both teams traded sets until the fifth and final set, as Hastings College pulled away in a 15-9 match win.

Hastings improves to 13-8 on the year and will be back in action Saturday Oct. 9 as Briar Cliff comes to town with first serve set for 3:00 pm inside Lynn Farrell Arena.

 

HASTINGS SOCCER THRILLS WITH NAIL BITERS

The Hastings College men’s soccer team was hoping to avoid another overtime game and the Broncos did just that and held on for the 2-1 victory over Midland on Wednesday night.

However, the Broncos women’s soccer team dominated play all night long but ended up on the wrong side of the 1-0 double overtime decision to Midland.

Both teams travel to Yankton, SD on Sunday for a matchup against Mount Marty.

 

KEARNEY SOFTBALL UPSETS NORTH PLATTE, REMATCH TODAY

Kelsey Choplin threw a no-hitter for the Bearcats and Kearney High now faces a rematch against North Platte to keep their season alive. 

After the 1-0 victory over the No. 2 seeded Bulldogs, Kearney fell to Papillion LaVista 13-1 in the latter game. 

A rematch with North Platte is set for today to keep the postseason alive for both teams. First pitch is set for 2 PM.

 

STORM SET FOR OPENING WEEKEND AT VIAERO 

The Tri-City Storm return home to the Viaero Center on Friday for the Home Opener and the first game of Opening Weekend. 

The Storm will host the Waterloo Black Hawks on Friday night in the first home game of the season and will also host the Omaha Lancers on Saturday. Tickets to both games can be purchased online at StormHockey.com

 

STILLE NAMED TO SENIOR CLASS AWARD CANDIDATE

Nebraska defensive lineman Ben Stille was one of 30 national candidates for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award announced on Wednesday

The Senior CLASS award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as a senior or graduate student and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

Stille is also one of Nebraska’s most active student-athletes in the community, as he has earned five appointments to both the Brook Berringer and Tom Osborne Citizenship Teams for his outreach efforts.

 

HUSKER VOLLEYBALL PREPARES FOR BIG TEN MATCH WITH PENN STATE

The No. 10 Nebraska volleyball team makes a trek to the East Coast this week, visiting No. 13 Penn State on Friday. First serve is set for 6 p.m.

Penn State won its sixth consecutive match on Saturday, defeating Indiana 3-1 on the road to improve to 11-3

The Huskers have won nine of the last 10 meetings with Penn State.

Nebraska caps its road swing at Rutgers on Sunday, Oct. 10, with first serve set for Noon CT at the Rutgers Athletic Center in Piscataway, N.J.

 

UNK VOLLEYBALL EARNS WIN IN HAYS, PREPARES FOR ROAD STRETCH

The Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team needed just over an hour to sweep Fort Hays State Tuesday night in Kansas.

This is the first of four Tuesday matches for the 14th-ranked Lopers over the next month. Things get a lot tougher next week with a trip to No. 1 Washburn.

The Lopers travel to No. 5 Central Missouri Friday night.

 

HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY DISTRICTS SET

The 2021 NSAA Classes A, B, C, and D Boys & Girls Cross Country District assignments were set on Tuesday.

Kearney High Girls will compete in the A-3 District in Lincoln.

Kearney High Boys will compete in the A-1 District in Lincoln.

Kearney Catholic Boys and Girls will compete in Aurora.

Nebraska-Kearney set new school records for 18 and 36 hole team score, and senior Faviola Gonzalez broke the individual 36-hole school mark, as the Lopers placed runner up a the Grace Shin Memorial Invite Tuesday in Edmond, Okla.

UNK is in the busiest portion of its schedule as it heads to Norfolk this weekend for the Nebraska Intercollegiate and then goes to Arkansas early next week for the HSU Region Preview.

 

ALBERTS NAMES DOUG EWALD CFO

The University of Nebraska Athletic Department and Vice Chancellor, Director of Athletics Trev Alberts announced Wednesday the addition of Doug Ewald as Executive Associate Athletic Director and Chief Financial Officer. Ewald is an experienced expert in the financial and accounting field, having worked for more than 30 years in Nebraska’s private and public sectors.
