NEBRASKA WOMEN BASKETBALL WIN OVER MIDLAND:

Alexis Markowski led four Huskers in double figures and just missed a double-double finishing with 15 points and nine rebounds to help the Nebraska women’s basketball team power its way to an 87-42 exhibition victory over Midland in front of more than 3,000 fans at Pinnacle Bank Arena

Nebraska opens its regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 9, by playing host to Maine at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Tip-off is set for noon.

 

LOPER FOOTBALL DROPS A SPOT IN SUPER REGIONALS

In the second edition of the NCAA region rankings the Nebraska-Kearney football team is eighth in “Super Region 3.”

These rankings, now released every Monday afternoon, determine the 28-team Division II playoff field (seven teams from four regions). The playoffs start Nov. 20

UNK, which was seventh last Monday, has wins over two teams with 7-2 records (Pittsburg State and Washburn) and another with a 5-4 mark (Emporia State). It’s an important week in the region 

as No. 10 Washburn plays at Pitt.

 

NEBRASKA WRESTLING RATED IN TOP TEN

The Nebraska wrestling team is ranked ninth in the preseason NWCA poll.

Five Big Ten teams are ranked in the Top 10 with 11 ranked among the Top 25. Iowa claimed the top spot, while Penn State, Missouri, Michigan and NC State round out the top five.

FROST – EFFORT STILL THERE FOR HUSKERS

The Huskers held their post-practice press conferences after Monday’s practice. Head Coach Scott Frost mentioned that his team is still playing with high effort despite the results.. 

Frost reiterated that his players came into Monday’s practice focused and ready for the game ahead against Ohio State. 

 

FROST – NEBRASKA EXCITED FOR OHIO STATE TEST

Head Coach of the Huskers Scott Frost was asked on his thoughts on the ultra talented Ohio State squad coming to Lincoln… 

Nebraska has now played four teams currently rated in the Top 10: Oklahoma, Michigan State, Michigan, and Ohio State on Saturday.

Scott Frost addressed the media on Monday in preparation for taking on Ohio State on Saturday. Frost added that the biggest hurdle to overcome against the Buckeyes is their skill at every position… 

Ohio State has had 35 NFL draft picks since Frost joined the conference. The Huskers have 5.

Frost added that he’s excited to see his young core continue to improve with new pieces being added around them.

Frost admitted in his media appearance on Monday that the scrutiny is hard to ignore…

Frost added that he’s excited to see his team perform this last three games of this season and to see how the team performs next season.

Huskers Head Coach Scott Frost was asked if there would be any changes at the quarterback position this week, and if Logan Smothers would be asked to step up….

Frost stated earlier in the press conference that he is keeping his faith in Adrian Martinez, and is hoping to see the senior quarterback return to his efficient ways.

Head Coach Scott Frost dodged questions regarding any change at the quarterback position after Adrian Martinez’ four interception performance against Purdue. 

Frost was asked what backup quarterback Logan Smothers does bring to the table if called upon…

The Big Ten Conference has announced that Nebraska’s game next Saturday against Ohio State at Memorial Stadium will kick off at 11 a.m. CT and will be televised on FOX.

FROST – POOR SECOND HALF DOOMED HUSKERS

Another winnable Big Ten game, another loss for Head Coach Scott Frost. Frost adds that a poor second half haunted the Huskers… 

The Huskers had a truly nightmare-ish third quarter, only converting one first down offensively. Frost added he never considered pulling Adrian Martinez after throwing four interceptions.

 

FROST –  PURDUE LOSS A TEAM LOSS

Head Coach Scott Frost addressed the media in his post game press conference stating that he feels the loss to Purdue was an all-around effort… 

Frost continued by saying that turnovers by the offense created too many opportunities to keep Purdue in the game and eventually led to the letdown.

Scott Frost was asked if he could feel the fans’ frustration after yet another disappointing loss to a Big Ten team… 

Frost also added he did not notice fans leaving Memorial Stadium early due to the poor performance.

Frost added that the team was ready to play in the first half but fell off the wagon with too many mistakes in the second half.

Martinez threw four interceptions and was seen on broadcast cameras receiving a heated exchange with Coach Frost after failing to convert a third down in the second half. 

 

JOJO – TEAM NOT READY TO GIVE UP

Senior linebacker JoJo Domann was disgruntled with the performance by the Huskers during Saturday’s loss to Purdue. Domann continued however, that his team is not yet ready to give up…

The Huskers will look to right the ship against Ohio State on Saturday for an 11 AM kickoff. 

 

JOJO – READY TO FIGHT FOR THE LAST THREE GAMES

Senior linebacker JoJo Domann is ready to leave it all on the line for the remaining games on the Huskers schedule… 

Domann returned after last season’s COVID year to have one more chance to take Nebraska to a bowl game – the last time the Huskers were in the postseason was in 2016.

JoJo Domann gave a very simple message to the Husker faithful and media after another tough one-possession loss at the hands of Purdue… 

The Huskers are opening as 14.5 point underdogs for their home contest against Ohio State.

Quarterback Adrian Martinez addressed the media regarding the offense’s issues during the 28-23 loss to Purdue…

Quarterback Adrian Martinez was seen on broadcast cameras in a heated exchange with Head Coach Scott Frost after a failed third down conversion led to another Huskers punt in their loss to Purdue. 

Martinez explains what occurred on the missed opportunity… 

Frost mentioned during his post game press conference that he was disappointed Martinez did not attempt for tough yardage in a critical part of the game. 

 

HUSKER MEN FLY BY COLORADO IN EXHIBITION

Fred Hoiberg’s team jumped to a massive lead early, extended it to 27 midway through the second half, and then moved past a clunky finish to win 82-67 over a Colorado program that made the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament a year ago.

The Huskers were up by 21 just nine minutes into the game and never traversed into serious danger, though Colorado rattled off a 17-2 run that brought the score into a respectable category after NU had gone up 67-40 with 11:50 left.

The Huskers are back again next Tuesday with the regular season starting against Western Illinois back at PBA.
