KEARNEY HIGH GIRLS OUTLASTED IN OVERTIME BY BELLEVUE EAST
Despite a valiant effort by senior Kierstynn Garner – knocking down a three pointer as time expired in regulation – the Bearcats Girls Basketball team fell to Bellevue East 52-48 in overtime on Thursday at Kearney High School.
Both teams opened up their season in the Early Bird Quad Tournament at Kearney High School. Bellevue East came into the contest with big names and talented starters – as well as a pre-season Top Ten rating in numerous outlets. Kearney came in looking to prove its worth amongst one of Class A’s best and continuing to build off of a 10-11 season last year.
Down 44-41 with less than 6 seconds to go, a miss by future UNK Women’s Basketball player Riley Jensen for the Cheiftains allowed Garner to gather the rebound, sprint down the floor, and hit a three pointer to send the contest into overtime.
In added time, Kearney was outmatched 8-4 and could not connect in offensive possessions down the stretch.
The Bearcats (0-1) travel to Bellevue East on Saturday to take on Papillion-LaVista South at 2 PM.
