NORFOLK – Kaden Miller added a casual 17 points in the second quarter alone as his 33 point effort attributed to the 28 point win over Norfolk on Friday night for the Kearney High Boys Basketball team, winning 88-60. Click here to listen to the broadcast.

Kearney was on the midst of a three-game losing skid and wanting to right the ship from the mistakes in their previous three losses. Norfolk had yet to win a game on the year, but had competed well against some of Class A’s finest teams.

Kearney started off hot but found itself in a back-and-forth competition through the first eight minutes of play. The Bearcats could not slow down the inside-outside looks by the Panthers as Kamari Moore had four points early and Colby James and Devon Bader drilled triples. The Bearcats responded with inside drives by Miller who ended the quarter with 6, junior Jack Dahlgren who had 4  in the quarter, and freshman Ben Johnson who also added 4. Kearney led 14-12 at the end of the first.

In a blink of an eye, a close contest erupted for a Kearney blowout early. Kaden Miller elevated, sprinted, avoided, and dominated defenders for 17 points in the second by himself. Dahlgren added another 4, with senior Jack Mundorf adding two at the charity stripe and Karter Lee and Johnson each adding 3 and 2 a piece. Kearney then stifled the attack of Norfolk, turning stops into points and turnovers into lethal buckets. Kearney led 42-25 at the end of the first half.

The Bearcats kept the pressure on through the second half, wracking up a 46-35 advantage and earning their second win on the year in the process. Kaden Miller would add a triple in the third and fourth – although one was an intended alley-oop play for his teammate that went in to score. Although Moore would continue to heat up, the Bearcats lead proved to be too much as Kearney won 88-60.
