8:00 PM - 9:00 PM

HAC TOURNAMENTS KICKOFF HOLIDAY BREAK:

Both the Kearney High Girls Basketball (4-2) and the Boys (3-3) are seeded #6 overall in their respective brackets and will host their opening contest of the Heartland Athletic Conference tournament today.

Both teams are coming off of back-to-back wins over a road weekend in Norfolk and Columbus.

The Bearcat girls will face #11 Lincoln North Star (2-4) at 2 PM, while the boys take on #11 Fremont (0-4) at 3:45 PM.

Both games will be broadcast on KGFW with Austin Jacobsen on the call.

Should both teams win, they will take on #3 Lincoln Pius X in both brackets on Tuesday.

FORMER HUSKER BURKHEAD POWERS NEW CAREER HIGH IN WIN:

Former Nebraska running back Rex Burkhead was the star of the show for the Houston Texans on Sunday, rushing for 149 yards and a pair of TDs enroute to a win for Houston.

Burkhead is on his third team since joining the league in 2013. Burkhead has previously spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals and the New England Patriots.

STORM FORWARDS TO REPRESENT USA:

Former Tri-City Storm forwards Matthew Knies and Carter Mazur are set to represent the United States of America in the 2022 World Junior Hockey Championship

Knies and Mazur were named to the final 25-man roster for USA on December 14th and made their debuts in the tournament when USA battled Slovakia

BORGESI NAMED TO ALL-AMERICAN TEAM ROSTER:

Tri-City Storm defenseman Vinny Borgesi has been named to the roster for the 2022 BioSteel All-American Game at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan on January 17th, 2022

The game will feature top prospects eligible for the 2022 NHL Draft.

Vinny Borgesi, 17, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, scored two goals and recorded 10 assists last season in 49 games played for the Storm.

HUSKERS AWAIT POTENTIAL PORTAL QUARTERBACKS:

With many changes coming to the Huskers for the upcoming season, a new quarterback could still be in the cards for Nebraska.

After missing out on the first waves of quarterback transfers such as Kaden Slovis, Spencer Rattler, and Max Johnson, Nebraska has significant interest in Zach Calzada from Texas A&M, Chubba Purder from Florida State, and Cameron Ward of Incarnate Word.

Players can wait to sign to a new team through the portal into the spring before being eligible for spring practices.
