KEARNEY BOYS BASKETBALL TRAVELS TO OMAHA NORTHWEST:

The Kearney Bearcats Boys Basketball teams hit the road for a battle against the winless Huskies of Omaha Northwest tonight.

Kearney is buzzing off their Saturday night upset over then No. 8 Lincoln Southwest and sit at 7-7 on the season. The Bearcats currently are sitting at #16 in Power-Points with any win a chance to increase their odds in their favor for postseason seeding.

Omaha Northwest has not won a contest since February of 2021, and is the only remaining winless team in Class A.

Pregame coverage on KGFW begins at 5:30 PM and tip-off is set for 5:45.

HUSKER TRANSFER PORTAL ADDITIONS RANKED IN TOP TEN:

In a new ranking assessed by 24/7 Sports, the Nebraska Football team’s recent transfer additions has the Huskers sitting at No. 6 nationally among all other college football teams in transfer portal inclusions.

Nebraska’s 2022 traditional recruiting ranking currently sits at No. 51 and No. 9 in the Big Ten as Head Coach Scott Frost’s staff focused primarily on the use of the transfer portal this off-season.

The 11 additions for the Huskers range from potential starting quarterback to offensive line help to expected answer at place kicker. Nebraska used the portal to add to its roster and to help paper over some of the holes that emerged during or after the 2021 season.

Here’s who the Huskers have added so far: quarterback Chubba Purdy, quarterback Casey Thompson, running back Deondre Jackson, wide receiver Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda, wide receiver Trey Palmer, offensive lineman Hunter Anthony, offensive lineman Kevin Williams, defensive back Omar Brown, defensive back Tommi Hill, placekicker Timmy Bleekrode and punter Brian Buschini

Everyone but Bleekrode and Jackson is on campus now for the Huskers.

NEBRASKA T&F CLIMB TO No. 12:

The Nebraska track and field team appeared at No. 12 in the men’s rankings of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Association’s (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index on Monday.

The No. 12 ranking is the highest for the men in the indoor season since the Husker men were tabbed No. 11 in the 2016 preseason rankings.

Eight Huskers have performances in 11 combined events contributing to Nebraska’s score of 55.08 in the Track & Field Rating Index (TFRI).

The Huskers are one of two Big Ten programs listed in the top 25 of the men’s rankings, with Iowa checking in at No. 9.

Nebraska continues action this weekend, hosting the Adidas Classic on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 28-29 at the Devaney Center Indoor Track.

HUSKER BASEBALL IN TOP 20 PRESEASON POLL:
The Nebraska baseball team received a preseason top 25 ranking on Monday, checking in at No. 20 in Baseball America’s preseason poll.

The Huskers are coming off a regular-season Big Ten title and their first NCAA Regional Final appearance since 2007 after going 34-14 (31-12 Big Ten) in 2021.

Nebraska is the lone Big Ten team in the Top 25. Texas received the top spot in Baseball America’s poll, followed by No. 2 Vanderbilt and defending national champion Mississippi State in third. No. 4 Notre Dame and No. 5 Virginia round out the top five.

Nebraska opens the 2022 campaign with a three-game series at Sam Houston on Feb. 18-20 in Huntsville, Texas.

The matchup was originally scheduled for Jan. 25, but was pushed back two days to allow for Nebraska to return from its short pause
