KEARNEY HIGH FOOTBALL SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED FOR 2022:

The Kearney High Football team knows who they will be competing with come September this year as schedules for the Fall 2022 football season were released by the NSAA today.

The Bearcats will kick off their year by traveling to Lincoln East, with trips to Lincoln North Star, Bellevue West, Omaha Westside, and Norfolk as well. Kearney will face Fremont, North Platte, Grand Island, and Lincoln Northeast at home. 

FULL SCHEDULE:

Week 1 – @ Lincoln East

Week 2 – v. Fremont

Week 3 – @ Lincoln North Star

Week 4 – @ Bellevue West

Week 5 – v. North Platte

Week 6 – v. Grand Island

KEARNEY CATHOLIC FOOTBALL SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED FOR 2022:

The Kearney Catholic High School Football team knows who they will be competing with come September this year as schedules for the Fall 2022 football season were released by the NSAA today.

The Stars will travel to Doniphan-Trumbull to start their season, while also hitting the road to take on Minden, Hastings St. Cecilia, and closing out their season with back-to-back road games at Centura and Gibbon.

NEBRASKA FOOTBALL ANNOUNCES CHANGES TO RUTGERS CONTEST:

Nebraska and Rutgers will meet on Friday, Oct. 7 in Piscataway, N.J., as the Big Ten Conference and its television partners have designated weeknight games for the 2022 season. The matchup was originally scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8.

Game time and television information for the contest will be determined this spring. The trip to Rutgers will be one of two Friday road games for Nebraska in 2022. The Huskers take on Iowa in their traditional Black Friday contest on Friday, Nov. 25 in Iowa City.

The Huskers also played on a Friday evening at Rutgers in 2020, when Nebraska defeated the Scarlet Knights, 28-21 on Dec. 18 as part of the conference’s Champions Weekend.  Nebraska previously played a Friday night game at Illinois during the 2017 season.

 

SEASON TICKETS SOLD OUT FOR NEBRASKA BASEBALL:

Nebraska Athletics announced Wednesday that reserved season tickets for the upcoming 2022 baseball season have been sold out. The defending Big Ten champions open their home season with a three-game series vs. Long Beach State on March 11-13, and Husker fans still have an opportunity to secure a spot at Haymarket Park through other ticket options.

 

NEBRASKA WOMEN’S BASKETBALL AMY WILLIAMS SPORTS NIGHTLY COMMENTS:

WILLIAMS – GOOD COMPETITION WITH PRACTICE

Amy Williams joined Sports Nightly on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming week for the Nebraska Women’s Basketball team, and added this week provides some opportunities for improvement through much needed practice competition… 

The Huskers travel to Ohio State on Thursday for another Top 25 matchup on the road. 

 

WILLIAMS – SHORT PREP LED TO MARYLAND LOSS

Head Coach for Nebraska Women’s Basketball Amy Williams joined Sports Nightly on Tuesday night and spoke about the loss to Maryland on Sunday, stating that sometimes a shorter time to prepare for a team as talented as the Terrapins can lead to mistakes… 

Williams continued in saying that her Huskers will need to overcome those mistakes in future matchups and in postseason play.

 

WILLIAMS – HUSKERS COULD NOT MAKE QUICK ADJUSTMENTS AGAINST MARYLAND

Head Coach for Nebraska Women’s Basketball Amy Williams spoke on Sports Nightly Tuesday night regarding the loss on the road to Maryland, saying that the Terrapins fast defense prevented Nebraska from making the winning adjustments… 

The Huskers travel to Ohio State on Thursday to battle another Top 25 team. 

 

HUSKER MEN TAKE ON MINNESOTA:

The Nebraska men’s basketball team wraps up a short two-game homestand on Wednesday night, as the Minnesota Golden Gophers visit Pinnacle Bank Arena. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.

The Huskers (6-17, 0-12 Big Ten) look to bounce back following a disappointing 87-63 loss to Northwestern on Saturday.

Minnesota (11-9, 2-9 Big Ten) comes off a 71-59 loss at Iowa Sunday afternoon.

Wednesday’s game is the only regular-season meeting of the 2021-22 season between the Huskers and Golden Gophers.

 

HUSKER WOMEN TRAVEL TO TOP 25 OHIO STATE THURSDAY:

Nebraska continues a challenging three-game road swing by tangling with No. 21 Ohio State on Thursday evening in Columbus.

Tip-off between the Huskers (17-5, 6-5 Big Ten) and the Buckeyes (17-4, 9-3 Big Ten) is set for 6 p.m. (CT) at the Schottenstein Center

The Huskers go hunting for a marquee road win against an Ohio State squad that has won eight of its last nine games, including wins over top-25 Maryland and Iowa teams in its last five contests.

Ohio State ranks in the top five nationally in scoring offense (5th, 82.1 ppg) and field goal percentage (3rd, .473) while featuring Division I’s best three-point offense (.400, 9.1 3FG pg).

 

SERGEEV NAMED GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:

Tri-City Storm goaltender Arsenii Sergeev has been named the USHL’s Goaltender of the Week for the fourth time in the 2021-2022 season following the Storm’s back-to-back road games against the Chicago Steel last weekend. 

Sergeev posted his league-leading sixth shutout of the season in the Storm’s 5-0 shutout over the Steel on Saturday night. Sergeev leads the USHL in every major goaltending statistic and has been named the league’s Goaltender of the Week more than any other goaltender this season.

 

STORM ANNOUNCE MULTIPLE TRADES/TRANSACTIONS:

The Tri-City Storm have announced multiple transactions following Sunday’s USA Hockey Trade/Drop deadline. Tri-City has completed a transaction with the Eastern Conference’s Muskegon Lumberjacks. The Storm has acquired a 5th Round Draft Pick in the 2022 USHL Phase II Draft, and a conditional Draft Pick in the 2023 USHL Phase II Draft in exchange for goaltender Chase Clark. Also, Tri-City has completed a transaction with the Western Conference’s Omaha Lancers. 

The Storm have acquired affiliate-list forward Daimon Gardner, a 9th Round Draft Pick in the 2022 USHL Phase I Draft, and an 8th Round Draft Pick in the 2023 USHL Phase II Draft, in exchange for a 3rd Round Draft Pick in the 2022 USHL Phase I Draft, and a 5th Round Draft Pick in the 2022 USHL Phase II Draft.

 

HUSKER BOWLING MAKES BTN DEBUT AT END OF FEBRUARY:

One of Nebraska’s most successful programs will make its Big Ten Network debut later this month, as the network will televise Nebraska bowling’s final match of the 2022 Big Red Invitational. 

The network will carry the final match of the Big Red Invitational from Hollywood Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 27, beginning at 11 a.m.  Former Husker Coach Bill Straub and veteran broadcaster Larry Punteney will call the action, as the Huskers will wrap up the three-day event with a best-of-seven Baker format match that day.

The Big Red Invitational is a three-day event scheduled from Feb. 25-27 at Hollywood Bowl in Lincoln.

 

NEBRASKA SOFTBALL NAMES CAPTAINS FOR UPCOMING SEASON:

The Nebraska softball team named its captains for the 2022 season, Head Coach Rhonda Revelle announced on Tuesday. Senior pitchers Olivia Ferrell, Karlee Seevers and Courtney Wallace will all serve as captains for the upcoming season. 

Members of the team participated in a voluntary Zoom series over the summer to actively learn about different leadership topics. Ferrell, Seevers and Wallace emerged as captains through this. The three Nebraska natives have high expectations for the season and are motivated heading into the spring season. 

All three are Nebraska natives: Ferrell from Elkhorn, Seevers from York, and Wallace from Omaha.

HOIBERG – DISAPPOINTING TO SEE EFFORT AGAINST NORTHWESTERN

Nebraska Men’s Basketball Coach Fred Hoiberg spoke on Sports Nightly on Monday after a blowout loss to Northwestern at home, saying it was one of the toughest games he has had to be a part of… 

Hoiberg reiterated he believes he is the man for the job to turn around the Huskers despite his 20-62 record with the Big Red. 

 

HOIBERG – HUSKERS HAVE NOT MADE PROGRESS AS EXPECTED

Head Men’s Basketball Coach Fred Hoiberg was asked on Sports Nightly by a fan to justify his employment as Nebraska’s Head Coach, and Hoiberg answered by saying he is still waiting for his team to show the progress of improvement… 

Hoiberg added that key injuries and the COVID shutdown really dampened any improvements for the program over the past two seasons. 

 

HOIBERG – LOOKING TO TURN IT AROUND

Fred Hoiberg appeared on Sports Nightly last night and took a call from a fan asking him directly if he still deserved to be the head coach for Nebraska Men’s Basketball with a 6-20 overall record. Hoiberg responded with empathy towards the dissatisfaction… 

Nebraska will face Minnesota at home on Wednesday followed by a road tilt with Iowa on Sunday. The Huskers are currently 6-17 overall. 

 

VINCE GUINTA ADDED TO NEBRASKA’S STAFF:

Vince Guinta has taken the Senior Director of Player Personnel and recruiting position at Nebraska. He spent the last two years at Baylor as the Associate AD of Player Personnel.

A veteran of this industry dating back 1997 where his career started at Utah, Guinta has worked at several programs including a prior stint at Nebraska from 2004-2008 where he started as a operation intern which blossomed into assistant director of football operations and director of recruiting.

The 43-year-old Guinta is expected to oversee Nebraska’s recruiting infrastructure moving forward. Guinta was part of some outstanding recruiting classes in his career including the No. 1 haul in the country back in 2005 for the Huskers and was part of efforts to recruit the likes Ndamukong Suh and Zac Taylor.
