NEBRASKA BASEBALL TRAVELS TO OMAHA FOR WEDNESDAY NIGHT REMATCH:
Nebraska makes the short trip on I-80 to Omaha, as the Huskers take on the Mavericks on Wednesday, April 6 at Tal Anderson Field. First pitch between the Huskers and Mavericks is set for 6:30 p.m.
Nebraska swept a road series against Big Ten foe Ohio State last weekend. The Huskers scored a run in the first and second innings in the series opener and never gave up the lead, as Nebraska held on for a 5-3 win on Friday night. The Big Red clinched the series with a 10-5 victory on Saturday.
With 32 runs scored in last weekend’s series at Ohio State, Nebraska tied its highest total of runs in a three-game conference series on the road since joining the Big Ten.
Omaha is 11-14 (4-2 Summit League) on the season after winning two of three games on the road last weekend against Summit League foe Oral Roberts.
Nebraska leads the all-time series over Omaha, 61-11.
FAN INFORMATION FOR NEBRASKA SPRING GAME:
Nebraska will welcome fans to Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon for the annual Red-White Spring Game. Approximately 46,500 tickets have been sold for the spring game with tickets still available. Below is information for fans attending Saturday’s Red-White contest, with kickoff set for 1:05 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to purchase mobile tickets in advance of Saturday’s game. Tickets are $10 each and available at Huskers.com.
The Athletic Ticket Office on Stadium Drive will open at 9 a.m. Additional ticket selling locations at Gate 10 and Gate 21 will open at 9:30 a.m. Stadium gates will open at 11:30 a.m.
NEBRASKA COACHES ASSOCIATION ALL-STAR TEAMS ANNOUNCED:
Many area coaches and athletes were recognized for their great seasons after rosters were announced for the Girls and Boys NCA 2022 All-Star Games.
For the girls, the Red Team will be coached by Aaron Sterup of North Bend Central and Evan Smith of Adams Central, while the Blue Team is led by York’s Matt Kern.
Local girls athletes include: Kearney’s Kierstynn Garner, Hastings St. Cecilia Bailey Kisssinger, Broken Bow’s Kailyn Scott, York’s Destiny Shepard, Adams Central’s Libby Trausch, and Lexington’s Sarah Treffer.
On the boys side, Doug Goltz of Falls City Sacred Heart will be the head coach while BJ Blase of Central City assists the Red Team. for the Blue Team, Kevin Scheef of Wahoo and Jacob Mohs of Ashland-Greenwood will coach.
Local boys athletes include: North Platte St. Patrick’s Jack Heiss, Grand Island Central Catholic’s Isaac Herbek, Loomis’ Quinn Johnson, and Kearney Catholic’s Brett Mahony.
The 53rd All-Star game will be held in Lincoln on July 25th.
LOPER GOLF WRAPS UP NEWMAN SPRING INVITE:
The 35th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney women’s golf team shot a 36-hole total of 634 to place 12th at the Newman Spring Invitational Tuesday in Newton, Kan.
UNK had rounds of 323 and 311 to be just 12 strokes out of seventh place. No. 22 Rogers State (604) won with No. 44 Central Oklahoma and No. 15 Henderson (Ark.) State both shooting a 605 to tie for second. The Lopers came in ahead of rivals Fort Hays State and Wayne State as well as MIAA foe Missouri Southern State.
Kansas sophomore Allison Comer and Puerto Rico senior Faviola Gonzalez led UNK as they each tied for 19th.

FORMAT CHANGES COULD BE COMING TO RED-WHITE SPRING GAME:
The format of Saturday’s Nebraska football spring game is still being determined.
Coach Scott Frost said after Monday’s practice that he’d prefer the traditional full two-team format of Reds vs. Whites, but that might not be doable because of injuries. A possible alternative would be an offense-vs.-defense setup similar to what was used in the 2014 spring game.
In the 2014 matchup, the Red “Offense” won 55-46 while the White “Defense” was awarded points for stout stops.
WOODS RETURNING TO MASTERS:
Tiger Woods is returning to the Masters and will compete. Woods is scheduled to tee off for the first round of the 2022 Masters in Augusta at 10:34 AM Thursday morning.
The 15-time majors champion has been away from competitive golf for over a year, having suffered serious leg injuries in a car crash back in February 2021.
LAKERS ELIMINATED FROM PLAYOFF CONTENTION:
The Los Angeles Lakers were at their best before the season started — when on paper and per the oddsmakers they were considered among the favorites to win the NBA title.
By once the games began, the Lakers were average, and by the final of week of the season, they weren’t very good at all — a $150 million roster with big names and nothing to show for it.
The Lakers were eliminated from postseason contention with Tuesday’s 121-110 loss to the Phoenix Suns, an appropriate and disappointing conclusion to the 2021-22 season.
