NEBRASKA BASEBALL EIGHTH INNING RALLY FALLS SHORT IN OMAHA:

Nebraska scored four runs in the eighth and loaded the bases in the ninth but couldn’t plate the tying run in a 6-5 loss at Omaha on Wednesday night at Tal Anderson Field.

Nebraska (12-15, 4-2 Big Ten) scored five runs on nine hits and had one error, while the Mavericks (12-14, 4-2 Summit League) totaled six runs on eight hits and three errors.

Omaha jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first after an RBI single by Mike Boeve and a two-RBI double from Eddie Satisky. Nebraska stormed back with four runs on three hits and a Maverick error to get within 6-5 in the top of the eighth.

Nebraska returns to conference action this weekend, hosting Rutgers for a three-game series at Hawks Field on Friday-Sunday, April 8-10.

KEARNEY BASEBALL AT GRAND ISLAND TRIANGULAR CANCELED

Due to low temperatures and high winds predicted for this afternoon, the Grand Island Triangular has been canceled as there will be no makeup date for the contests between Kearney, Grand Island, and Norfolk.

The Bearcats hit the road this weekend to Lincoln, taking on Lincoln High and Columbus in a double dual, followed by a return home to Memorial Field on Monday against Hastings.

HUSKER FOOTBALL SPRING GAME COMMENTS: MICKEY JOSEPH:

JOSEPH – PASSING CONCEPTS CONTINUE TO IMPROVE

Wide receivers coach and new assistant to the Nebraska Football team Mickey Joseph spoke after Wednesday’s practice to the media and stated that he’s been happy with the improvement the passing game has showed throughout the spring…

Joseph anticipates 10 to 12 receivers seeing action during Saturday’s Red-White scrimmage at Memorial Stadium.

JOSEPH – GOALS FOR THE SPRING GAME:

Wide Receivers coach for the Nebraska Football team Mickey Joseph kept the goals for the Red-White Spring Game on Saturday fairly simple when asked by the media after Wednesday’s practice…

Joseph also added he’s looking forward to seeing how his receivers connect with the different quarterbacks who will see time during the scrimmage at Memorial Stadium.

JOSEPH – OLIVER MARTIN NEEDS CONFIDENCE

New receivers coach Mickey Joseph spoke on his talented group of receivers after Wednesday’s practice, and added that returning veteran Oliver Martin may just need a push in the right direction to continue his success…

Martin became an early favorite of former quarterback Adrian Martinez last season despite in-season injuries to Martin, as he had 10 receptions for 170 yards and a score last season.

JOSEPH – PALMER IMPROVING FROM HIS DAYS AS A TIGER

Mickey Joseph brought plenty of talent with him from LSU as transfer receiver Trey Palmer is turning heads at Nebraska spring football practices. Joseph added that the former Tiger continues to improve his stock with each rep…

Palmer had 30 receptions last season for 3 touchdowns and 344 yards at LSU.

JOSEPH – DOOR NOT SHUT ON BETTS RETURN:

New receivers coach Mickey Joseph has a talented roster with depth in his first season at Nebraska, but the assistant coach gave an update on Zavier Betts, the former Bellevue West star who was announced as “not with the team” last week during Scott Frost’s press conference…

Betts looked to be a big part of the offense coming up this season, as he had increased his stat total from his first season at the Big Red.

Luff’s first outdoor race of the season resulted in a win in the 110-meter hurdles, as the Lincoln native posted a time of 13.70 to beat out a talented field of 18 hurdlers at the Florida Relays.

Conner had a third-place finish in the high jump with a clearance of 7-1 (2.16m) in his first outdoor competition this season, while Rogers placed fourth in the high jump with an outdoor personal-best height of 6-0 1/2 (1.84m).
