KEARNEY BASEBALL FALLS TO ELKHORN NORTH:
Despite finding a lead in the fourth inning and having played admirably against a future Husker in Ryan Harrahill on the mound, Kearney suffered a massive collapse in the top of the sixth inning falling 11-9 to Elkhorn North at Memorial Field.
The loss taints the perfect record at home that Kearney held before Thursday’s contest.
Kearney Baseball hits the road Saturday to take on Lincoln Southwest in a rematch of the HAC Championship game in the same location. First pitch is estimated for 2 PM with pregame on KGFW beginning at 1:50 PM.
NEBRASKA BASEBALL SEES TIME CHANGE FOR START OF IOWA SERIES:
Nebraska’s series opener on Friday vs. Iowa has been moved to 3:35 p.m. due to forecasted inclement weather.
With the schedule change, Friday’s game will no longer be broadcast on BTN and will be available on B1G+.
The Huskers and Hawkeyes continue the series on Saturday, with first pitch set for 2:02 p.m. The series finale on Sunday is scheduled for 12:05 p.m.
Iowa enters the weekend with a 24-13 overall record and 8-4 mark in Big Ten play after taking two of three games at league-leading Rutgers last weekend.
Nebraska holds a slim 22-21 advantage in the all-time series over Iowa. The Huskers and Hawkeyes met five times last season, playing two games in Minneapolis and a three-game series in Iowa City.
HUSKER SOFTBALL TRAVELS FOR SERIES IN COLUMBUS:
The Nebraska softball team travels to Columbus, Ohio, this weekend, April 29-May 1, for a three game series with Ohio State. The Huskers will face the Buckeyes in game one on Friday, starting at 5 p.m. (CT). Game two is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT) while the final game of the series will be Sunday at 11 a.m.
This weekend’s series features two of the eight Big Ten teams with winning records in conference play. Ohio State (29-13, 9-8 Big Ten) enters the series in eighth place in the Big Ten standings, while Nebraska (34-11, 14-2 Big Ten) sits in second place.
The Buckeyes are coming off of a midweek split with Penn State. OSU claimed game one, 4-2, before falling in game two, 2-4.
NU is 5-3 at Ohio State
NFL DRAFT DAY TWO BEGINS TODAY:
The first round came and went with no Husker players selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Plenty of notable players for Nebraska fans could see their names called on Friday and Saturday in post-first round selections, as Nebraska has seven prospects available: Cam Taylor-Britt, Cam Jurgens, JoJo Domann, Samori Toure, Austin Allen, Damion Daniels, and Ben Stille.
UNK Loper Corey Hoelck could also see his name called late in the draft process, but will likely be picked up to an NFL camp through the undrafted free agent portal.
Cam Taylor-Britt, Cam Jurgens, and JoJo Domann are the highest-predicted Huskers to be picked in Day 2 selections.
