KEARNEY – The Kearney Runza Seniors took Tuesday night’s home matchup in dramatic fashion, earning a 3-2 walk-off victory over Columbus Cornerstone at Memorial Field with a late walk as bases were loaded to earn their third win on the season. Click here to listen to the broadcast replay.
Runza Legion Baseball v. Columbus
The game was dominated by strong pitching, as Kearney’s Bryce Andersen nearly completed the contest and Columbus’ Brennan Jelinek worked the entirety of the contest.
It began as a big day for Andersen, as he smashed a second inning solo home run over the right-center field wall to open Kearney in the early lead 1-0.
The Runza Seniors continued their strong hitting this season with 11 hits on the day, with Andersen, Brodie Arnold, Jase Blattner, and Garrison Burns all each earning multiple hits on the day.
Runza Legion Baseball v. Columbus
After Columbus tied the contest at 2-2 in the top of the seventh, Arnold’s double to start the bottom of the seventh gave Kearney an edge early. An intentional walk to Kaleb Larson followed by a perfectly placed bunt to single Burns allowed Nolan Smith to earn the walk-off walk given up by Jelinek.
Jelinek ended the complete game going six innings (no outs in the seventh frame) allowing eleven hits and three runs with no strikeouts and one walk. Andersen started the game for Kearney, going six and two-thirds innings surrendering two runs on four hits with ten strikeouts. Arnold earned the win on the mound for the Runza Seniors, earning the final out with no hits, no runs, and no walks.
Kearney (3-2) earned the win with three runs on eleven hits and no errors. Columbus dropped the road contest with two runs on four hits and no errors.
