GRAND ISLAND — Cody C. Holum, 17, of Doniphan has been charged in Hall County District Court with 30 felonies and 18 misdemeanors in sex-related crimes including felony human trafficking of a minor, felony child abuse, felony terroristic threats, felony visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct, and felony first-degree sexual assault.
The human trafficking charges involve 11 minors.
Holum will be arraigned and have a bond hearing Tuesday, Jan. 23, in Hall County District Court before District Judge Andrew Butler. Deputy Hall County Public Defender Vicky Ann Kenney represents Holum. Holum’s bond is set at 10 percent of $50,000.
The misdemeanor charges include possession of child pornography and third-degree sexual assault.
The human trafficking charges occurred between 2019 and 2023, with the majority occurring in 2023.
Holum is charged with 10 felony counts of visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct, 14 felony counts of human trafficking of a minor, one felony count of child abuse, one count of felony terroristic threats, and four felony counts of first-degree sexual assault. He is also charged with 16 misdemeanor counts of possession of child pornography and two misdemeanor counts of third-degree sexual assault.
The felony human trafficking charge states that Holum “knowingly recruited, enticed, harbored, transported, provided or obtained, or knowingly attempted to recruit, entice, harbor, transport, provide, or obtain by any means a minor; for the purpose of having such minor engage in commercial sexual activity, sexually explicit performance, or the production of pornography, or attempting to cause the minor to engage in commercial sexual activity, sexually explicit performance, or the production of pornography, or knowing the minor will be subjected to forced labor or services.”
The misdemeanor possession of child pornography charges involved possession of pornographic photographs and video.
The felony visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct charge states that a “person under 19 years of age did knowingly make, publish, direct, create, provide, or in any manner generate any visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct which has a child other than the defendant as one of its participants or portrayed observers,” either in a photograph or video.
The felony child abuse charge states that Holum “knowingly and intentionally caused or permitted a minor child to be placed in a situation that endangers his or her life or physical or mental health or knowingly and intentionally caused or permitted a minor child to be placed in a situation to be sexually exploited by allowing, encouraging, or forcing such minor child to solicit for or engage in prostitution, debauchery, public indecency, or obscene or pornographic photography, films, or depictions.”
The felony first-degree sexual assault charge states that Holum “subjected another person to sexual penetration without consent of the victim, or, subjected another person to sexual penetration and knew or should have known that the victim was mentally or physically incapable of resisting or appraising the nature of his or her conduct.”
