GRAND ISLAND — Amazon is moving into the former FedEx location in Grand Island’s Industrial Park at 4201 Gold Core Road. The site is about two blocks north of the intersection of Schimmer Drive and Gold Core Road on the east side of Gold Core Road, and directly south of Hall County Park.

“Amazon can confirm we have leased a facility with the intent of opening a last mile facility in the area,” said Andi DiOrio, Amazon Regional PR facility manager, in a March 19 email. “We’ll share more, including timing of the facility’s opening and other details, when we can.”

Amazon has advertised for an area manager, driver trainer, and other jobs for a Grand Island facility on its website.

A last mile facility is for “when the product is delivered to the customer’s door,” according to the manager job posting. The driver trainer job begins in July for the “station launch.”

The job ad says that Global Specialty Fulfillment will manage the site. It is “an exciting organization within Amazon specializing in delighting our customers with speed in which we can make items appear on their doorsteps. We are a combination of operations and support teams aligned to innovate for the last mile customer experience.”

Mary Berlie, president of the Grand Island Area Economic Development Corp., said that Grand Island is well-suited for transportation, logistics, and distribution businesses. She did not have further information about Amazon coming to Grand Island. Jamie Karl, president of the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce, also said he could not comment about Amazon coming to Grand Island.

According to lease information on the Internet about 4201 Gold Core Drive, the building has 40,000 square feet. The website (LocationOne), says that the transportation/warehouse facility was built to suit FedEx’s needs in 2008. In 2014, the facility was expanded by 13,031 square feet, and additional land of 51,849 square feet, was acquired. Sixteen additional driver doors were added along with a large number of parking spaces. FedEx relocated when their lease expired on Aug. 1, 2023, the website said.

Owner of the property is listed as Royce Carville with RJ Properties. A voice message was left at the phone number listed for Carville.
