KEARNEY – The Nebraska-Kearney football team wraps up its 2024 spring season with an annual intrasquad scrimmage this Friday night (April 19) at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium.

The game begins at 6 p.m. with Operation NETS hosting a family-friendly tailgate (4:30 p.m.). The game should last around 90 minutes.

The format this year pits the “Blue” squad against the “White” squad. The coaching staff has also been divided with four assistants on each side. Head coach Ryan Held will observe and float between both teams.

On Wednesday, the coaching staff held a draft and divided the 100-player roster evenly. Due to injuries, the offensive line will wear “Gold” jerseys and could play on both teams. Quarterbacks also are in “Gold” and cannot be hit.

The first half will have normal clock rules with the second half featuring a running clock except for change of possession. Additionally, the clock will stop in the final two minutes if it’s a one-score game. Next, turnover plays are live and can lead to a score, each team can place the ball on the plus 20-yard line once during the game, there will be no rush on PAT’s and field goal attempts and a punt that goes into the end zone will place the ball at the 20-yard line.

The 2024 regular season starts with night games at Chadron State (Aug. 29) and vs. Northwest Missouri (Sept. 7). A bye week follows on Sept. 14 with the Lopers having five home and six away games this season.
