CRETE – The Hastings College softball team would lose two heartbreakers on Tuesday afternoon to Doane dropping game one 5-4 and game two 5-4 in 10 innings.

The Tigers would jump out to a 2-0 lead in game one but Hastings fought back as Lexie Mudloff picked up a RBI sac fly to get HC on the board in the third. Then Gerhard singled to plate Sam Skinner to tie the game 2-2.

Doane regained the lead in the fourth but again the Lady Broncos had an answer in the sixth as Kyleigh Boever helped her cause with a 2 RBI single to center as the game would enter the final frame tied 4-4.

Hastings was unable to get anything in the top half of the seventh and it would be the Tigers that would picked up the game winning sac fly off the bat of Faith Molina that would give DU the game one victory.

Kappler went 2-for-3 in game one while Boever led the way going 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Game two was another tight see saw battle that had Doane jump out to the early 3-1 lead but again Hastings had an answer in the third taking advantage of a Tiger miscue in the field. Taylor Stuhr hit a ball to first that was misplayed by the first baseman allowing Macie Mays and Elana Gerhard to score to tie the game 3-3.

Hastings then briefly took the lead when Isabel Tanabe scored on the RBI single from Lauren Schneider. Doane came right back with an answer as the game would remain tied 4-4 all the way into the 10th where a wild pitch would bring home the game winner for Doane as the Tigers came away with the sweep.

Stuhr and Kappler each went 2-for-5 in the game two loss. Angelina Lockhart went 9.1 innings giving up five runs (three earned) while scattering seven hits with three strikeouts.

Hastings is now 15-27 (3-17) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Apr. 27 for senior day as Briar Cliff comes to town for the season finale with first pitch set for 1:00 pm out at the Smith Softball Complex.
