GRAND ISLAND — A Flood Warning is in effect across areas of south central Nebraska until 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 26.

According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, the warning is in effect for portions of Hall, Adams, Hamilton and Merrick counties.

Excessive rainfall during the evening of Thursday, April 25 is contributing to the flooding threat. At 5:24 a.m., Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated three to five inches of precipitation had fallen.

As a result, flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, low-lying and other flood prone locations is imminent or occurring. Communities that could be impacted include Grand Island, Aurora, Wood River, Doniphan, Alda, Giltner, Phillips and Prosser.

“Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles,” NWS Hastings stated, “Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.”
