RAVENNA — Several tornadoes touched down in central Nebraska during the early afternoon hours of Friday, April 26.

Severe thunderstorms had been forecasted for Friday, but the severe threat was forecast to be further to the east.

Around 12 p.m. a thunderstorm developed near Ravenna and began to organize into a supercell. The storm gained a severe thunderstorm warning and then a tornado warning as it began to show strengthened mid-level rotation on radar.

Two miles north of Ravenna, just over the county line into Sherman County, the supercell produces its first tornado of the day, a narrow rope tornado that hit the ground at 12:28 p.m. and lifted at 12:33 p.m.

The tornado touched down in a field near Highway 68, before it crossed the road and dissipated.

The storm continued toward Rockville, where it developed a second stronger tornado.

This tornado caused damage on the eastern edge of Rockville, with a house sustaining damage to its roof, power poles snapped, metal outbuildings destroyed, large trees knocked down, etc.

This is a developing situation, check back later for an in-depth article into the severe weather that impacted central Nebraska.
