HASTINGS — The traffic signal pole for southbound U.S. Highway 34/281 traffic at Kansas Street was damaged on Feb. 29. A pickup truck left the roadway and dented the pole, causing a vertical split in the pole. The Utilities Department installed guy wires opposite the dent & split to support the pole. The NDOT inspected the pole foundation, anchor bolts, and welded the split seam.

IES Commercial & Industrial was hired to replace the pole with a used pole from the recent traffic signal upgrade at 16th Street and Burlington Avenue. IES has scheduled Monday and Tuesday, April 29 and 30 to do the work.

When the signal is taken out-of-service, work zone traffic control will be similar to what motorists experienced for the recent traffic signal upgrade on U.S. Highway 34/281 at Northshore Drive.
• Northbound traffic on U.S. Highway 34/281 (Burlington Avenue) will be allowed to turn right or drive through the intersection.
• Southbound traffic on U.S. Highway 34/281 (Burlington Avenue) will be shifted to the inside lanes.
• Southbound traffic on US Hwy 34/281 will be closed to Kansas Avenue.
• Kansas Avenue traffic will not be able to cross U.S. Highway 34/281.
• West Osborne Dr traffic will not be able to use Kansas Ave to access US Hwy 34/281.
• East Osborne Dr traffic will be able to use Kansas Ave to access US Hwy 34/281, but will only be able to turn right.

IES has already did some of the work to get the replacement signal pole and mast arm ready. Their schedule is to complete the work on Tuesday morning, April 30, and open the intersection to traffic.
