GRAND ISLAND — A 47-year-old man who was arrested for violating the sex offender registry has now been arrested for child abuse and delivering obscene material to a minor.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, on Tuesday, June 11 at 4:54 p.m., officers were dispatched to W. 2nd St. for the reference of possible child abuse.

Upon arrival, officers contacted an adult female who reported that Gregory Knotts was living in an apartment on W. 2nd St.

An administrative record check of the Nebraska State Sex Offender Registry revealed that Knotts was registered as transient on Jan. 10, 2024.

According to the registry, Knotts sex crime offense is related to a third-degree sexual assault, for which he was convicted in 2013.

Officers then contacted an employee with Residence Suites who advised that room 231 had been rented by a male on June 3, 2024. Officers went to the room and contacted Knotts.

Knotts advised officers that he is not allowed to rent a room, so he had another person rent the room for him. He said he had lived in the room since June 3.

Due to Knotts being a sex offender and not registering his new address within three days with the state, he was arrested for violating the sex registry, a Class 3A felony.

On June 12, a juvenile would disclose that Knotts had show them pictures of his genitals and a video of a female performing oral sex to Knotts on his cell phone. The juvenile had asked Knotts multiple times to stop but he would not comply.

Officers would arrest Knotts for intentional child abuse – no injury and deliver obscene material to a minor.

Knotts remains lodged in the Hall County Department of Corrections
