GRAND ISLAND — Nelly Venegas has been named vice president of the Grand Island Area Chamber of Commerce. In this role, she will oversee the Chamber’s events and operations, while helping set a long-term vision for the organization.

For the past year, Venegas has served as executive director of the Literacy Council of Grand Island, overseeing the Council’s administration, programs, strategic plan, and financial objectives. Prior to her time at the Literacy Council, she conducted sales for Chief Carriers and assisted with project management at Chief Industries.

“The Grand Island Chamber is honored to have Nelly join our staff and serve the more than 700 members of our organization,” said Justin Pfenning, the Chamber’s 2024 chairman and owner of Dramco Tool.

“Nelly’s combined experience in business and non-profit experience, along with her leadership training, will ensure the Chamber continues to strengthen our business climate and enhance Grand Island’s quality of life.”

A native of Grand Island, Venegas is a 2014 graduate of Grand Island Northwest High School and a 2019 graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and business.

Venegas is a graduate of the Leadership Tomorrow program and serves on the boards of the Central Nebraska Humane Society and the Grand Island Public Library. Earlier this year, she was presented the Grand Island Chamber’s Top 35 Under 35 award.
