GRAND ISLAND – The League One Volleyball (LOVB)-Omaha team played a scrimmage Dec. 7 at Grand Island Senior High School.

Four former University of Nebraska-Lincoln volleyball players are on the roster: Jordan Larson, Justine Wong-Orantes, Lauren Stivrins, and Madi Kubik. Larson was not present Dec. 7 because she is an assistant coach for the Husker volleyball team, which was playing a NCAA Tournament match in the evening Dec. 7 in Lincoln.

Several hundred people turned out for the scrimmage, and the athletes played four sets. Doors to the high school opened at 12:15 p.m. Dec. 7, and there was a long line of people waiting to get into the high school.

After the scrimmage, which lasted to approximately 2 p.m. Dec. 7, the athletes signed autographs on everything from T-shirts to volleyballs.

League One Volleyball-Omaha is among six teams in the league. The others are located in Atlanta; Auston; Houston, Madison, and Salt Lake City. Teams do not have mascots but instead compete as LOVB followed by the city name.

League One Volleyball-Omaha is not the same as the Omaha Supernovas. The Omaha Supernovas compete in the Pro Volleyball Federation League.

League One Volleyball-Omaha will play its first match at 7 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Liberty First Credit Union Arena in Ralson.
