GRAND ISLAND — A date for a jury trial has been set for a Grand Island man charged with sexual assault of a child after a 15-year-old girl was found to be pregnant.
Tomas Ortiz-Juarez, 37, is charged with first degree sexual assault of a child, a Class 1B felony.
On June 17, Ortiz-Juarez pleaded not guilty to the charges in Hall County District Court. A plea-trial hearing was set for July 14 at 10:30 a.m. and a jury trial was scheduled to begin on Sept. 8 at 9 a.m.
According to an affidavit submitted in Hall County Court, an officer with the Grand Island Police Department was dispatched to CHI Health St. Francis in reference to a sexual assault during the evening of April 7.
The officer contacted a 15-year-old girl who was pregnant and stated that Ortiz-Juarez, her stepfather, has been sexually assaulted her since April 2024, according to the affidavit.
Ortiz-Juarez was booked into the Hall County Department of Corrections.
