GRAND ISLAND – A collection of antique small farm machinery gives Nebraska State Fair attendees an idea of what their fathers, grandfathers, and other relatives used on the farm.
Brothers Kevin Killinger of St. Paul and Larry Killinger of Grand Island coordinate getting the approximately 20 machines from various owners that are in the exhibit. The exhibit is toward the southeast edge of the State Fairgrounds, located at the same site as the antique tractor collection.
As people approach the exhibit, they can hear the sound of a corn sheller that strips corn from the cob. A rock grinder, corn grinder, sileage cutter, Maytag washer, homemade ice cream machine and buzz saw to cut wood are among the other machines in the collection.
The oldest piece of machinery in the collection is from 1917. The newest pieces are from the 1940s.
The exhibit has been part of the State Fair since it came to Grand Island. Representatives of the State Fair approached the brothers about having an exhibit at the State Fair.
