KEARNEY — The Kearney Police Department has continued the search for an overdue Cessna private aircraft.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on August 27, 2025, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported an overdue aircraft that was routed to the Kearney Regional Airport and had lost contact with the plane. The aircraft’s last known location was reported in the area several miles north of the Kearney Regional Airport.

This is a joint search effort between the Kearney Police Department, Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, Kearney Volunteer Fire Department, Nebraska State Patrol, Good Samaritan Hospital, surrounding law enforcement agencies and the Federal Aviation Administration.

Officers have been utilizing drone technology, as well as conducting ground searches on foot, with patrol vehicles, and with ATVs. Air search support has also been coordinated through partner agencies. Fog and other weather conditions have created significant challenges, making search efforts more difficult.

“Our priority is the safety and well-being of those on board,” said Gabriel Kowalek, Chief of Police. “We are using every available resource to assist in this search effort.”

The Kearney Police Department is asking residents and farmers in the area to remain alert and report any unusual activity, debris, or possible aircraft sightings to the Kearney Police Department by calling 911.

No further details about the aircraft or those on board will be released at this time.
